Small businesses are having a difficult time meeting sales goals since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sales goals for businesses mean deals for customers – but eager customers beware not to fall trap to a scam. The BBB scam tracker is reporting increased instances of phony ‘going out of business’ online sales. In some instances customers are reporting not receiving a purchased item at all, receiving a different item than the one purchased, or just receiving a poor-quality item, different than the one ordered. Be advised when shopping online to look for suspicious websites, do not purchase anything on a website with no customer service information, or beware of deals that are too good to be true.
To report or investigate a potential scam, visit Scam Tracker, or call BBB of the Tri-Counties at 805-963-8657
