Stores are not legally required to accept exchanges or give refunds, unless the merchandise was defective or misrepresented. While most retailers do offer refund and exchange programs, policies vary greatly from one store to another. Fortunately for shoppers, one positive outcome of the COVID-19 pandemic is that many retailers have become more lenient in their return policies. But be sure to double check policies this holiday season, even if you are familiar with the brand, as stores can change their policies whenever they want.

In doing so, they are also collecting personal information, such as Social Security numbers and dates of birth. They may also be stealing health insurance or Medicare information that can be used in future schemes. Learn how the scam works so you don’t fall for it!

With the recent tornadoes in Kentucky and other states, many people are eager to help. Oftentimes, the best way to help is to give a cash donation so that the money goes where it’s needed the most. Instead of clicking on solicitations from texts or social media posts, consider making donations directly on a charity’s website. You can verify that a charity meets the BBB standards of accountability at Give.org.  The information in this podcast is brought to you by BBB of the Tri-Counties.
